A Full Moon symbolises the culmination of the Moon cycle when everything is illuminated. It is a time for romance, fertility, and harvest. In the days before electric lights, it would be a time that people could gather at night under a brighter sky. It is often a time when we can see the results of the intentions that we set at the New Moon. This Full Moon is in the sign of Capricorn so we may be looking back to intentions that we made at the start of the year, the Capricorn New Moon was in January when we were setting our new years resolutions, or you could look back to our most recent New Moon in Gemini, when we had a solar eclipse.
Capricorn is a cardinal, earth sign, it has a steady determined energy and can turn our minds to our work and career goals. Its disciplined work ethic can make this a productive time and sometimes brings a nudge to take on more responsibility, often this can feel like responsibility that we are not ready for, but this energy is supportive and grounding and will help us learn and grow through the experience. Earth signs love tradition they are the keepers of our history, and this can give them a reputation for stubbornness and resistance to change. Being flexible and willing to grow and evolve can be valuable, but Capricorn knows the value of the well-worn path and tried and trusted methods. Much can be achieved with hard work and determination; you do not always need to re write the rule book. As a higher expression, Capricorn can bridge the gap between the mystical and the mundane by collecting evidence and facts. They can have incredibly accurate dreams and intuition, often with a practical meaning, Capricorn reminds us to trust our gut but always be looking for evidence that we are headed in the right direction.
A Full Moon is an opposition, this one is between the Sun in Cancer and the Moon in Capricorn. This offers us a chance to look for balance and integration on this axis of work and home, personal and public identity, nurture, and discipline. The Cancer Sun reminds us to nurture ourselves and whilst work is good, making time for home and family is important too.
Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, so he is the ruler of this Full Moon. Saturn is currently in Aquarius which is the other sign where he is the traditional ruler. He is forming an opposition to Mars in Leo, asking us if this playful fiery Mars energy is fully in alignment. Where this shows up in your chart you may need to balance maturity and fun or old and new ideas. We have support from a trine to Mercury and the north node in Gemini to help us see this opposition from all angles, gather information and consider how it may affect our life plan. And a sextile to Chiron offering opportunities to access healing. Saturn always reminds us to sharpen our focus on the main goal, he strips away distractions and helps us create structures to support our growth.
As Full Moons are a time to release whatever is no longer serving us, spend time thinking about all the things you wish to leave behind. The Capricorn New Moon was in January so you may wish to look back at your New Year’s resolutions. Collect some earthy objects, leaves, and stones and write the things that you wish to release on them. Take them somewhere away from your home and throw them away. Thank them for what they brought to your life and visualise releasing them back to the universe, you no longer need to carry them with you.
