A moon circle, also known as a Women’s Circle or Sister Circle, is a group of women that gather together on the new and/or full moon. It is a safe, sacred, non-judgmental space where all women are welcome to come as they are, and be in a sisterhood of women that truly support them.
This is something our ancestors would have done, and as women we are always drawn to being in a circle with each other. If you are new to the idea of a circle and you want something to compare it to, it’s like a yoga class for your soul.
We take turns at sharing (you can always pass if you want) and we write things we want to let go of, or what we want to forgive ourselves for, then burn the paper in a fire. (It’s actually scientifically proven that writing then burning negative thoughts helps overcome them!)You may even think of it as being similar to therapy or a support group, but with an element of sacredness, play, and inner transformation.
For the in-person ones, we sit in a circle (outside in the summer, inside in the winter). In the middle of the circle we have beautiful rocks and crystals and a few tarot cards selected for the circle. We also like to have chocolate or home-baked cake to have a little nibble on.
We start with a short grounding meditation and gentle movement to help you let go of the stress of the day and arrive fully in the present moment, centred and relaxed.
I introduce more about the Moon cycle and where the moon is sitting, in which sign and what it signifies
We go around the circle and briefly introduce ourselves and share what we’d like to get out of the circle.
Then the monthly theme is discussed further and we may do some journalling
For full moons we may write down things we want to release onto a piece of paper and then that paper is burnt to signify the release
For new moons, we write down intentions and goals- at the start of the cycle it’s a time of planting seeds and ideas
We then have another short meditation and visualisation
We then close out the circle with a simple ritual and each sharing one thing we are taking from the circle with us.
I am so excited and grateful we have co-created this together. Harriet is a wonderful yoga and meditation instructor, as well as an actress.
I attend many of her group classes and always find them incredibly restorative and great for framing a positive and nourishing mindset. She has a way of understanding just what you need and intuitively brings it into her teaching.
Harriet will be guiding us through some mediation, breathing and gentle embodiment work to enable us to connect with the gentle dark moon.
